Portrait of Dario Mulder

About me

I'm Dario Mulder, a hybrid athlete and Hybrid Performance Coach. I lost more than 40 kilos myself, but my transformation was about much more than weight loss. I built structure, optimized my lifestyle and learned to stay consistent, even when progress stalled or setbacks arose.

That journey changed not only my physique and performance, but also my mindset. I learned how to deal with discipline, expectations and setbacks, and discovered how much is possible when you keep working on yourself.

I bring that experience into my coaching. I coach from knowledge, but above all from an understanding of the process. To me, real progress goes beyond becoming stronger, fitter or faster. It's about building confidence, pushing boundaries and creating results you can sustain.

As a coach, I am calm, dependable, steady and committed. That is why I look not only at the athlete, but also at the person behind the athlete. That connection is especially important to me. I know how much impact a physical and mental transformation can have, and I find great fulfilment in guiding others through that process.

My story

  1. Football

Sport was always a big part of my life. I played football in my club's selection teams.

  2. Secondary school

From secondary school onward, that slowly changed. Unhealthy eating, a lot of gaming, hardly any movement. In 2016 I stopped playing football.

  3. The gap year

After secondary school I took a gap year. That's when things went wrong fast: no structure, a lot of alcohol, no goal.

  4. The lowest point

I hit a low point. I was unhappy, I developed an eating disorder, and at my heaviest I weighed 110 kilos. I told myself more than once that this was "really" it now — but it kept getting worse.

  5. Turning it around

Until the pain got bad enough that I was done. In 2019 I turned things around: I started running and joined a gym.

  6. The first 30 kilos

In less than a year I lost more than 30 kilos — from 110 to 80 in six months. Pure willpower and consistency. Maybe not in the healthiest way, I'll be honest about that.

  7. Fit — but not finished

I completely rediscovered my passion for sport and started playing football again. By then I had lost 40 kilos and I looked fit. But something was still missing.

  8. Working on myself

The real difference only came when I stopped working just on my body and started working on myself. Through awareness and inner work, I brought my eating disorder under control, step by step. Losing the weight hadn't fixed it — that's exactly the point.

  9. The endurance turn

In 2024 I stopped playing football and started training for my first marathon. More unprocessed food, no more alcohol. What started as losing weight became a goal of its own.

  10. Now

Now I don't just look fit—I feel fitter than ever. I have my eating disorder under control and feel better than ever, both physically and mentally!

Sub-60

I already knew I could do it — it just had to come out. The race went exactly as I'd planned: don't start too hard, then open the throttle after the sleds. Where I usually arrived at the sleds in fifth or sixth, I made up serious ground in the burpees — and after the farmers carry I was actually leading. I entered the wall balls at 55 minutes. They were the only station of the whole race that went worse than hoped. But still: a finish time of 59:32, and finally the sub-60 I'd been chasing for so long.

  4. 1:04Amsterdam · Jan ’26
  5. 1:03Mechelen · Mar ’26

That progression wasn't luck. It was the result of hard work, targeted training, and a specific plan aligned completely with the goal.

HYROX is often seen as just training harder. But the biggest gains come from training smarter, making the right choices, and staying consistent. That was true for me — and it's true for you too.

Road to Berlin

This isn't a look back — it's happening now. On 27 September, I line up for the Berlin Marathon. The goal: sub-2:35. That means a pace of 3:40 per kilometre, for 42 kilometres.

On paper that sounds fine. But a pace also has to hold up when the body is tired — that's what the whole build is about: long runs with blocks at marathon pace and volume built up week after week.

How I coach

A plan that works for you. That is the foundation of my coaching. Motivation comes and goes, but with a plan aligned with your goal, level and daily life, you can keep building.

That is why I don't use standard training plans. Every athlete receives a personally tailored plan built around your goals, level, available time and capacity. Whether you want to run a marathon in 3 or 5 hours, become faster or stronger, finish your first or twentieth HYROX, or simply improve your general fitness: we train with purpose and a clear reason behind every session.

  • Personally tailored training plans. No two athletes are the same. You therefore don't receive a standard programme, but a plan fully tailored to your goals, strengths, areas for improvement and daily life. The plan grows with you and is adjusted whenever needed.
  • Train specifically for your goal. A faster 10K requires a different approach from a strong HYROX performance or a marathon. We tailor training volume, intensity, paces, strength work and specific sessions to the performance you are working toward.
  • Build structure, don't rely on motivation. Good results aren't created only on the days when everything comes easily. By building a clear structure you can sustain, we work step by step toward long-term progress.
  • Progress over perfection. Doing more is not automatically better. Training, load and recovery must stay in balance. We find the approach that keeps you developing and fits within your life.
  • Adjust when needed. Bad sessions, busy weeks, injuries and unexpected setbacks are part of the process. A good plan is not set in stone. We adjust where necessary without losing sight of the bigger goal.
  • Coaching built on knowledge, experience and development. As a certified Personal Trainer and HYROX Coach, I combine professional knowledge with my own experience as a hybrid athlete. At the same time, I continuously develop by gaining new knowledge, insights and experience. I bring that development directly into my coaching, so you continue to grow with me as an athlete. The approach never stands still; it evolves with what can make you better.
  • Clear and committed guidance. It matters to me that you understand why we make certain choices and what we are working toward. You know what is expected of you and can always count on honest feedback and clear communication.
  • Get the most out of your potential. My goal isn't simply to make you train harder or do more. My goal is to help you train smarter, with greater purpose and consistency, so you can get the maximum from yourself and your performance.

Dario has been coaching me toward my first marathon (April ’26) for about a month now, and it has been great working together. He creates personal running and strength plans based on the data I provide and takes my level and goals into account. His approach is helping me make clear progress and everything runs smoothly. I can always ask questions, and he responds quickly. Absolutely recommended!

Really happy with the coaching! It is so much more than just guidance. Dario genuinely thinks along with you and your individual needs. I can always ask questions. And because he makes it so personal and incorporates my own journey, it makes the experience even better for me. Take that step—100%!

I have been coached by Dario in preparation for the Utrecht Marathon. I can wholeheartedly recommend his coaching if you are training for a marathon: he always gives useful feedback, and whenever something does not go well, he knows the right solution and is there for you. On Sunday, it is time to give everything we have worked for💪🏼

Dario coached me for three months toward a half marathon, a full marathon and a HYROX Pro Solo. Although I already knew quite a lot about training, nutrition and recovery, combining those goals proved to be a completely different challenge. Dario creates strong, varied plans with enjoyable sessions, while leaving enough room for your own input and flexibility in the schedule. He also gives honest and realistic feedback. For athletes who are serious about strength training, running and HYROX, Dario is the perfect coach.

Dario offers a good selection of coaching options. I was looking for a combination of marathon and strength training, plus practical feedback or simply someone to bounce ideas off now and then. The plans were highly personalized and exactly challenging enough, with room to make adjustments together along the way. In short, I would definitely recommend Dario! Great plans, pleasant communication, always available.

In January I purchased a HYROX plan from Dario to prepare for HYROX Mixed Doubles in Rotterdam. Our goal was a time under 1 hour and 30 minutes. Thanks to the clear, well-structured plan, I arrived at the start line strong and we finished the race in 1:16—well ahead of my goal. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to train seriously for HYROX.

My marathon plan for Paris was created by Dario. He really takes the time to see which runs suit me, and the feedback he gives is structured and clear. For my next marathon, I know exactly whose door I will be knocking on again ⚡️

I had signed up for a half marathon but had zero running experience. I got in touch with Dario and we got straight to work. With solid running and strength-training plans, I achieved my goal in two months and set a fantastic time. You can always reach out with questions, and Dario responds extremely quickly. We check in every week to discuss progress and how the sessions feel and are going. Absolutely recommended if you want to achieve your sporting goals too🤩💪🏻

Really happy with the custom plans Dario made for me. The progression and variety in the sessions make them easy to sustain, and after around four months I am seeing excellent results. The strength plans Dario creates align well with the goals I set. When my current plan ends, I will definitely be back for the next—my third—training plan.
